Possible breaking changes with Release 5.
A major change with this build of Release 5 is the way file sharing between workstations
is implemented. This does not affect user images, but may affect graphics and other
files in the Genie public documents folder.
In early versions of Genie, files were accessed across networks by gaining access
to the drive on the master computer on which they were stored. With time, security
requirements have been tightened and this no longer works for newly installed systems.
In order to share data on newly installed multi workstation systems, Genie assumes that a Share name of GenieSharedData will
be created for multi workstation systems. This name is assigned to the location
of the Genie Shared Data. By default, this is C:\Users\Public\Documents\TorrensBuildingSoftware\Genie.
It can be changed during installation.
To determine if changes are required to an existing installation, you can
- Edit the background of a drawing on the master workstation.
- View the drawing on a client workstation. If the changes are visible, sharing of
files is working correctly. If the changes are not visible, the following steps are required.
Adjusting File Handling between workstations
- On the Master Workstation, create a shared name on the folder for Genie shared Data. By default, this is C:\Users\Public\Documents\TorrensBuildingSoftware\Genie.
- On the Master Workstation, Close down Genie and run NodeReinstall from the Torrens bin folder. Select Master and check Reset File Locations.
- On the Master Workstation, restart Genie.
- Ensure Genie is not running on the Client workstation. Run NodeReinstall from the Torrens bin folder on the Client, and select Client and check Reset File Locations.
- Restart Genie on the Client Workstation. The editing drawing should now be visible in the Graphics applications.
